The reason for the many abbreviations and contractions it suffered may perhaps be found in that very mild form of Antiochene christology which the author teaches: it did not contain enough ammunition for N estorian orthodox polemic. If the date attributed to VI should be correct, the patristic material gains further in interest. The quotations which have parallels only in the Eranistes of Theodoret (written in 448) could not have been gathered from this famous work, but from some earlier florilegium of the bishop of Cyrus.

It is evident from style and contents that the text which follows is the prooemium and the introduction to a whole writing, therefore Ila is the beginning of the 'tract' itself. The introduction speaks in a general manner of Cyril (it was he who brought impiety into the church) and the' bad Synod of Chalcedon'. On p. 37 there is a subtitle saying that the next section refutes the confession of Chalcedon, on p. 39 another subtitle announces a section against 'theotokos'. e. again against the creed of Chalcedon.
